That's right people a community dedicated to the one and only Vanessa Lynn Williams! I've been wanting one, so I and a group of you [info](blackmamba_esq is an admin and created our amazing graphics) started up one. Please come an post fanfics for any character Vanessa has played in any of her many projectsor Vanessa herself. Fanart, news (not nasty gossip), some rumors (titled and tagged as such) and anything else would be fantastic. I really would like to make this community significant and active! I hope you all join and look forward to what is to come!

Does anyone know if Into the Woods has been translated into German and, if so, where I could find those lyrics? Thanks!

I recently watched this musical and I am in LOVE! I am addicted to it, XD! I absolutely LOVE the witch.

I was wondering, does anyone have a soundtrack of this that they could upload for me?
I would appreciate it a lot!

Thanks!

Hello, everyone!  My name's Samantha and decided to join because I've been rather obsessed with this show for the last few months.  I find it incredibly inspiring and lovely and fascinating.  I'd love to see a professional group perform it at some point, but the DVD of the 1989 performance is perfection.  I'm so enamored with it that I doubt I'll ever fully enjoy another cast.  I'm ok with this.  ;)

I wasn't sure how to introduce myself further, so I decided to browse through the comm.  I found a survey by _excruciating__ that seemed perfect.  It's from May 2006, so I assumed no one would mind a repost.  Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

Hi- I'm new...and it's funny because I'd been looking for an Into the Woods comm. for a LONG TIME...can't believe I just now found this one..
Anyhoo, Into the Woods is my absolute favorite musical. I saw the PBS recording when I was 2 1/2 and watching the musical, actually, is my first memory. This musical is the reason I'm in theater and has probably had more affect on my life than anything else- ever.
Which may sound a little weird, but all of my idiosyncrasies, the unusually high maturity level I had as a child, my compassion, deep-thinking, and obsession with older women (thank you Bernadette Peters) stemmed from the moment I saw the show.
You know how most kids want to watch Barney or something over and over again when they're little?
Well- I watched Into the Woods...honest to God...every day from the time I was 2 1/2 til I was 5. Then weekly after that, barring extreme sickness or trips.
Anyways, just thought I'd introduce myself and say hey!

I must say I love this show like no other. Its just...... ahmazing. I'm and actor and singer and its my secret dream that a cool edgey production (similar to the sweeney revival perhaps) decides to go and tour and casts me as jack. Very unlikely, I know, but I can dream I suppose. I also have dreams of directing so I might have to settle for an edgey production of my own, since I'm very interested in starting a youth theater for my area since we have none.

I've also found some pretty cool different concepts for this show on youtube my favorite being
better use a cut..........Collapse )

Discussion [19 Jun 2008|08:58pm]

Hello all! I'm a new member to this community, having been very recently introduced to Into The Woods. It's probably one of the most thematic Sondheim musicals I've seen, and I love it for its fantastic music and array of characters. I love how everything interrelates, as well as how concepts and morals taught have to do with each storyline.

I am not an actor nor a singer, but a writer, so my perspective on musicals as a whole is very different from posts of the past that I've read on this community.  At any rate, I just wanted to post a discussion question since I don't have any personal ITW stories to relate.

Simply, which song is your favorite and why?  Is there a personal experience from your ITW performance or real life that relates to the song?

I think that my favorite song has to be the finale, because it's really a wonderful way for everything to ultimately come together. "Careful the tale you tell, that is the spell" sums up everything that the play stands for in my opinion, and it's just so briliantly stated. Not to mention that as the finale, it literally makes everyone come together, but with the song, everyone comes together with the same understanding that what they do and the choices they make not only influence themselves as individuals, but others around them.

Hi! I'm new to this community :D

I've recently been cast as Cinderella in my school's production of ITW. I originally wanted (and expected, because I haven't been in as many shows as everyone else) one of the stepsisters, but I'm excited for the show of course.

Does anybody have any tips to playing her? Our actual rehearsals have not begun yet, but the read-throughs have gone pretty well. I'm just having some problems finding depth in her. Any help? Also, any ideas as to what scenes are considered her best? We have to make a highlight video for everyone and almost everyone else has their's picked because most are pretty obvious.

Also, any stories about your general experience as Cinderella or in the cast?

Thanks!

New here! Hi. :)

So the upcoming production in my tiny town is "Into the Woods", a coproduction between the local theatre company and the theatre department at the college. I'm, of course, auditioning. I don't exactly have my heart set on a role because I've never had a lead before and this is a director I've never ever worked with who is notorious for picking favorites and staying with them from play to play. However, for interests' sake, I love Little Red, she's kind of my dream role.

Anyway, auditions are May 3rd and preparing a piece to sing is optional. The director says he just wants to hear our voices at their best (i.e., a song that is really comfortable for us to sing that we feel confident with). I had already been practicing "My New Philosophy" from "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," because I was already in a production of that and I'm very familiar with it and it sounds great on my voice. However, he told me that everyone at auditions will be learning a song from the show and singing it individually, obviously putting some people at a disadvantage if they're not very good at sight-reading (....*ahem*... me) or not familiar with the music (which I am, but not extremely).

My question is: what do you think he'll have us learn? In terms of a song that isn't terribly difficult to learn on the fly that everyone can audition with? Practically the whole show is music, and since I'm not a very quick music learner, ESPECIALLY when I'm all nervous at auditions, I would like to be pretty well prepared.

Also, any tips or past audition experiences would be great to hear about. I get soooo nervous at auditions, and I'm pretty sure it's why I haven't gotten great roles in the past. I feel like it should be my turn, you know? Hah. Anything you have to share would be greatly appreciated!

Into the Woods photos [05 Apr 2008|07:31pm]

Hello, everyone!

I'm currently desperately looking for photos/screencaps of Into the Woods. I need them for a class project, and I'm having trouble finding any decent pics. Any professional cast is fine -- broadway, touring cast, movie, whatever -- as long as they look nice, and aren't too small.

I've seen a bunch of great photos from amateur productions, but I'd really prefer photos of a professional cast.

I would be SO grateful if anyone could help me out!

(crossposted, my apologies)

We've actually been working on our production of "Into the Woods" for a while now (we started in January, and the play's in a month), but I wanted to see if any of you had tips on playing Jack's Mother. I want to see what others think of the character and how I could apply those ideas to my performance. Thanks!
